Whenever I find myself calling up graphic designers and printmaking shops I stop myself, take a deep breath, and remember to tell myself, "Dude, I'm an Artist."
I know that I can make a sign, paint, cut, print, design, and if I find that after a few tries I can't do something I thought I could, I remember that most of the people I know are artists- between the lot of them we can accomplish just about anything.
Except successful brain surgery.
Best to get a Doctor for that.

Good Story
Very informative story about context and the perception of worth:

The Art of Joy/The Joy of Art
Smoking in bed at 5am, I had the most beautiful idea...an assemblage/collage graphic novel style reitteration of What Lies Beneath- a movie that glides along Michelle Phifer's beautiful bones for about two hours. Condensed into my interpretation of ink and reclaimed box parts from Pop Tarts and other miscellanious scraps of found paper from a kitchen that desperately needs my attention.
The Great Value version of What Lies Beneath.
Genius.

Art through Process
I make an object-
Beit doll, ceramic, or bone and metal sculpture-
I photograph the object
I paint a picture of the object
in watercolor, acrylic or latex
I take a photograph of the painting of the object
I digitally manipulate the photo of the painting of the object I have made
I print the digital image
I transfer the inkjet print to a fine piece of Reeves or other "grown up" paper support
I add ink or paint or gold or copper or a combination
I mount the print on a cardboard support
I sign the mounted print
I call it Art through Process

Tell me One True Thing
The line my overworked tired as hell drawing teacher said to me over the summer- the line than made me pace and rage against all of the evil I have committed in this lifetime- the line that drove me half insane with a sense of broken desperation... tell me one true thing...
I'm tired.
so tired I fear lyme disease or chronic fatigue syndrome. I'm so tired my hair folicles aches with the burden of growing gray...
sinse I have been to artschool I have had to twist my ideas and behavior so drastically that I have snapped and mended repeatedly...
So many useless excersises intended to trigger a spark and fix a knowledge of reality in observation, each level trying to undo the mistakes of the level that cames before with a bitch and a moan and a frown of discontent at not being a true artist...
all the while I am learning that true learning comes from personal, hands on experience and research.
Senior moments... it'll all be over soon enough.

Whew!
After a coupla days of being medicated beyond my own recognition, I've returned to the usual dose and am feeling much more like myself and creating again. Boyoboy, that was a close one. Sometimes in an ultra conservative town, one has to be careful of one's artistic inclinations lest one be wrapped in a chemical straight-jacket and shipped off to the not-so-funny farm...
